Travel Chessboard by Anywhere Games started ten years ago with one question mind:
What game could we bring on a canoe camping trip to the Boundary Waters that 1) wasn’t a deck of cards, 2) feels like a different game every time you play it, and 3) would meet our needs of being waterproof, windproof, flat packing, and ultralight?
The answer to the first two parts was easy – chess! However, we realized that the answer to the third part proved to be challenging as we couldn’t find a product in the marketplace that met all of our needs.
So, we decided to create a solution of our own with our first prototype of the Travel Chessboard.
Each year we went to the Boundary Waters, we brought along a new and improved prototype until we arrived at the version you see on our site today.
These Travel Chessboards are handcrafted by us here in Northwest Arkansas. Inspired by the natural world where we bring this chessboard along as our companion, our designs feature images from nature – blue skies, lush beds of moss, unbelievable orange lichen, and more.
Today, our Travel Chessboard weighs in at an ultralight 2.5 ounces and opens up to 9.75 x 10.5 x .125 inches.
